Columbus, Ohio (WCMH) – Two dozen pastors and bishops of Columbus churches want an independent review of the officer involved shooting that took the life of 23-year-old Henry Green.

The group met with leadership with the City of Columbus Monday, formalizing their request for a side-by-side review with Columbus Police. It was filed with the Office of Community Relations.

Pastor Dale Snyder leads the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Columbus. He is also the lead pastor at Bethel A.M.E Church located at 2021 Cleveland Avenue.

“We have the tools in the toolbox to make sure this is transparent, that all questions are answered,” said Snyder. “Also, that all witnesses are talked to in a way that they feel their statements is fair and received.”

The shooting incident took place the evening of June 6 near the intersection of Duxberry Avenue and Ontario Street.

A preliminary investigation revealed two undercover Columbus Police officers were driving down Duxberry Avenue when they saw Green with a gun in his hand.

Investigators said the officers approached Green, identifying themselves as police, and asked him to drop his weapon. They said Green didn’t comply; instead he pointed the gun at police and fired. Officers exchange gunfire with Green, hitting him multiple times. He died around 7:30 p.m. at Grant Medical Center.

A witness backs up the officer’s account of what happened, but other witnesses claim the officers never identified themselves, shooting Green for no reason.

Snyder said their request comes after meeting with the Green family and their attorney.

“This isn’t an indictment of police, or an indictment of Mr. Green, or an indictment on this community. We just said we have these tools. Let’s use them so everyone feels comfortable,” said Snyder. What others are clicking on:
