COLEMAN, TX – (KTAB/KRBC) – A cow in central Texas in gave birth to triplets last month.

For County Commissioner Mark Williams, cattle ranching is the family business.

“It’s all I know. Been in it all my life,” Williams said.

With all his years in the business, he has seen his fair share of cattle births. But about a month ago, Williams had a pretty shocking experience.

“I had a neighbor call me that drove by the place and he said ‘you’ve got two calves laying out in the field and no cows around.’  Well, this cow had already had three sets of twins so I wasn’t worried about it,” Williams said.

A couple hours later, Williams received another call from a neighbor.

“He says ‘Mark, I think you’ve got three calves laying out here in your field and there’s a cow on the other side of the field,’ so I though I better go check,” Williams said.

Cows having triplets is about a one in 100,000 chance.

“My dad’s 89 years old and been in the cattle business all of his life and he’s never seen a set of triplets. I wouldn’t have thought it was that big of chance,” Williams said.

Despite the odds, the calves are happy and healthy.

“They like each other.  They hang together, run and play just like kids,” Williams said.

Williams says friends and neighbors in the cattle business have been coming by to see the calves.
