COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A man is dead after a shooting in southeast Columbus.

According to Columbus Police, the shooting took place at Chatterton Square along Chatterton Road.

The whole strip mall has been blocked off as officers investigate the shooting, which occurred around 2 p.m. Saturday.

The investigation appears to be centered around a specific store and the two vehicles parked in front of it.

A woman who lives nearby said she heard at least five gunshots.

Another woman who was in the store at the time of the shooting said detectives told her one of the bullets went through the store’s window near where she was standing and ended up in one of the walls.

“I was standing there and started hearing gunfire,” said Belinda Morrison. “I just started running to the back of the store and got in the closet. Got up and everybody was saying, ‘Somebody got shot.” I was gonna just leave because I was panicking, then I saw the young man laying by the front wheel of my tires so I just started screaming and crying.”

There is a daycare at the shopping center, and many are thankful it was closed at the time of the shooting.

Dispatchers say the victim was taken to Mount Carmel East hospital. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police did not release any information about a possible suspect.
