COLUMBUS (WCMH) — LifeCare Alliance in Columbus does a yearly fan campaign where thousands of fans are given out to the community.

Currently at LifeCare Alliance, they only have about 20 fans on the shelf, so they are asking for your help

They need thousands to be able to give to the community during these hot summer months.

“We do need fans desperately,” says Michelle Jones with LifeCare Alliance.

“It really does help ,” she said. “It really does it takes the temperatures down to like 10 degrees cooler than what they were and a lot of times older adults don’t even know they are as hot as they are, so the fans really help with heat exhaustion.”

Jones say volunteers drop the donated fans off to homes.

“These fans go to anyone in the community that needs them,” she said. Generally we send them out to Meals on Wheels clients but absolutely anyone can get a fan.”

LifeCare Alliance also has public distributions and a hotline number to call to find out when and where those distributions will take place. You can call 614-437-2870.

These fans help anywhere from 2,500 to 4,000 people each year.

“When you go into a home and hook up one of these fans for them its just a God send for them they are so incredibly happy,” Jones said.

They are currently giving out one fan per household.

“And the other thing I want to say if you know an older adult in your community that’s home take them something over, check on them take them something cool to drink make sure their being hydrated drinking enough fluids during these hot months hot days we’re experiencing,” Michelle Jones said.

The fans cost about twenty dollars, you can do is go buy one and either drop off it off at LifeCare Alliance or take one to your local fire department.
